ED ALERT – Fake Summons & “Digital Arrest” Scams on the Rise!

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has officially warned citizens about fraudsters pretending to be ED officers — sending fake summons, threatening “digital arrests”, and extorting huge amounts of money.
What’s Happening:
Scammers pose as ED officials on calls or WhatsApp video chats.
They send forged letters, IDs & fake “ED summons.”
Victims are accused of money laundering or terror links.
Out of fear, many end up transferring their savings to fraudsters.
New Safety Feature by ED:
Every real ED summons will now have:
A QR Code and A Unique Passcode
You can verify any summons yourself:
Visit enforcementdirectorate.gov.in
Click on “Verify Your Summons”
Enter the summons number + passcode
Or simply scan the QR code on the letter
The verification link activates within 24 hours (excluding holidays).
*ED Clarifies*:
-There is NO such thing as a “Digital Arrest.”-ED never demands money or online payments.
-All ED arrests happen physically and only after following the PMLA, 2002 legal process.
Public Safety Tips:
Always verify letters or summons online through the official ED website.
Don’t believe anyone claiming to be from ED, CBI, or RBI over WhatsApp or calls.
Report any suspicious message or video call immediately to 1930 Cyber Helpline or cybercrime.gov.in.
Never share OTPs, account details, or personal info with unknown callers.
Remember:
Awareness is your best protection!
Real ED officers don’t call on WhatsApp or threaten “online arrests.”
